Well, my first 30-Day Challenge comes to a close today. All in all, I’m proud of putting myself out there and for setting ambitious goals. As I said before, I did much better on some goals than others, but I did improve some behaviors overall so that’s a move in the right direction. I’ll have a full recap next week and also some thoughts on 30-Day Challenge Part 2 – yes, I’m going to start it all over again!
Congratulations to each of you for participating and for committing to positive changes in your own lives. I look forward to hearing how you did – do share!
Have a great extended weekend!
Good morning, all. I’m in the home stretch! For those of you who started your Challenge with me on Aug. 1, we only have nine days left (single digits – yeah). I woke up today feeling energized that it’s the start of our fourth week. I’ll do a complete rundown of my Challenge (the good, the bad and the ugly) when we wrap up next week, but in the meantime, let’s all finish strong!

Great hike/walk at Discovery Park this morning. Joined by Brian Agler, my family and some enthusiastic Storm fans, it was a perfect way to start the day!
Start of Week 3 and I’m looking to make up for “lost” points! I ate my breakfast this morning, I’ve got a workout scheduled with Brian before the game. I WILL also get my meditating in and I’ll be 3 for 3! Good way to start a new week.
If you’re around Sunday, come join me at Discovery Park on Aug. 18 at 10 a.m.
Today marks the end of Week 2!
In terms of points, I’ve earned 29 of 42 or 69% so far, which is not great by my standards and certainly below where I want to be, but I’m proud of the changes I have made.
My primary successes are eating breakfast; all but one day so far. Given that this is an entirely new weekday activity for me, I’m proud of my consistency on this one. You may be saying, “Well, that’s an easy one,” and you’re not wrong, but I just wasn’t doing it until the Challenge. In my initial meeting with Wendy (and in every conversation since), she emphasizes the importance of breakfast. I get it now!
When it comes to my goal of meditating daily, I got a slow start, but have followed through on nine of the past 10 days. And now I’m hooked. I’m still experimenting with different resources and getting a lot from learning different ways to relax.
I’m also tracking my stretch goal of only whole foods twice per week. The change is helping with meal planning and definitely ensuring more fruits and veggies overall.
So now the less than stellar results…on the exercise front, I’m falling short. My goal is 10K steps or 45 minutes every day. I’ve achieved only seven of the 14 days – only 50%. I’m not satisfied whatsoever with these results. No excuses – I just simply need to MAKE the time! There were at least four days during the past two weeks that I had my plan for exercise and I let something else take priority. On the bright side, I exercised seven of the past 14 days!!! There is a lot of room for improvement, but given that before #healthbystorm, I would go weeks without exercise, I’m definitely making progress.
Let me know how you’re doing with your Challenge by posting comments below.
I had my first “perfect” score yesterday; 3 for 3. Another healthy breakfast – I’ve got a streak going on that one – 45 minutes of exercise and my first meditation session. It was great. It took me a few minutes to relax, but once I did I was in a zone. I’m curious to see how the meditation experience evolves for me as I learn more about it and experiment a little. If you have any tips or resources related to meditation that you want to share, please do.
Yesterday, I also accomplished my first of two whole foods only days for this week. I had fruit for breakfast, chicken breast and sweet potatoes for lunch, and steak, broccolini and quinoa for dinner. Yum! Thursday marks the end of my first week and that will be my 2 of 2 whole foods only day for Week 1. Gotta hit that stretch goal for those 10 points!
So, I’m less than a week in and not doing so well. We got back earlier tonight from a long weekend on Merrily’s family boat and I didn’t do so well the past three days with my daily goals. I had a great weekend with our family, but not so great with my Challenge effort. I ate a healthy breakfast each day so I have a perfect score on that front so far. I exercised Saturday, but missed Friday and Sunday. And I haven’t figured out the meditation “thing” so I’m completely failing on that one. I’m on tomorrow though! In short, I’m at 6/12 or 50% after four days. Not a great start, but no more vacations this month so it’s time to hunker down.
