Food Tips from Registered Dietitian Wendy Caamano
Always on the go and never have time for breakfast? Try these easy healthy breakfast choices that will give you the energy you need to start your day
- Peanut Butter Waffle
Instead of dousing a whole-grain or bran toaster waffle in syrup, cut the sugar and boost the protein and fiber by spreading it with two tablespoons of peanut butter. You can also sprinkle on one tablespoon of raisins, sesame seeds or extra peanuts for even more fiber, which helps deliver the meal’s nutrients slowly and steadily. Reference: Realsimple.com
- Breakfast Wrap
Wraps are easy to take as you are running out the door to go to work or even for the kids to take as they are running to catch the bus. They are quick, easy and yummy!
Breakfast wraps with whole wheat tortillas; roll in lean protein such as turkey and low fat cheese, scrambled eggs with diced peppers and onions or peanut butter and bananas.
-Prepare veggies in advance: store veggies in your fridge and serve with hummus or low-fat dressing. If veggies are washed, sliced and ready to grab, the more likely you will eat them than if they were not prepared and ready to eat.
-Be a healthy role model for your child. You are the most important influence on your child. You can do many things to help your child develop healthy eating habit; go grocery shopping together, get creative in the kitchen, encourage physical activity
-Avoid overeating: stop eating when you are no longer hungry, not when you are full.
